If you were to call this anything else, nobody would ever connect it to Alone In The Dark, in fact I suspect that this game was in development long before it ever became an Alone In The Dark title.
Illumination is a cookie cutter horror themed shooter that takes place in an ambiguously modern setting with no atmosphere what-so-ever. Alone In The Dark was a period piece set in the mid 1920s and based on the horror atmosphere of the writings of Howard Phillip Lovecraft. This game has nothing to do with Alone In The Dark except for it's name. Lovecraft, Atari’s Alone in the Dark series is recognized as the. As one of four heroes, you must battle the minions of the old ones with the force of arms, and the power of illumination. Monstrous hordes emerge from beyond the realm of nightmares to sow chaos on the land. This is not even an Alone In The Dark game, they claimed that this would be a true survival horror game that returned to the series' roots. Alone in the Dark: Illumination - A darkness has fallen over the town of Lorwich. Not only will you get burned by Atari, you will be helping to keep them afloat to do the exact same thing again, just like what they did to the people who purchased Cryptic Graves. The same thing is going to happen to Illumination because, let's face it, Atari hasn't produced a half decent game in years and whenever their poorly made games fail, they blame us, the gamers and take it out on us. The game can no longer be purchased, and those who have can't re-download it if they delete it. After 'Haunted House: Cryptic Graves' received overwhelmingly negative reception due to it's bugs, broken gameplay and rediculously bloated system requirments, rather than fixing the game they have opted to pull it from every digital distribution site.
